NBA News: Anthony Bennett sixth in Rookie of the Year odds

It?s only been one week since the 2013 NBA Draft, but that doesn?t mean it?s ever too early for some wagers. As noted by HoopsWorld?s Alex Kennedy, here are the odds from sportsbook Bovada on the 2013-14 NBA Rookie of the Year:

T-3. CJ McCollum, G, Portland ? 15/2
T-3. Otto Porter, SF, Washington ? 15/2
5. Michael Carter-Williams, PG, Philadelphia ? 9/1
T-6. Anthony Bennett, F, Cleveland ? 10/1
T-6. Ben McLemore, SG, Sacramento ? 10/1
8. Cody Zeller, F, Charlotte ? 12/1

Burke, who the the Jazz acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves on draft night, is expected to be the starting point guard for the Jazz this season. The reigning NCAA Player of the Year at Michigan and a Columbus native, he is a logical candidate for the most playing time this next season, a la Damian Lillard this year with Portland.

The No. 2 and No. 3 picks, Oladipo and Porter, then fall next in line. Oladipo?s offensive game is not as developed, but early murmurs have the Magic potentially trying him out as a Russell Westbrook-esque explosive point guard. Porter has a unique all-around game, but with John Wall and Bradley Beal already on the Wizards, he might not get as many scoring opportunities.

Portland?s McCollum will be playing next to Lillard, but has a very developed scoring game making him an early sleeper for the scoring-influenced award. Philadelphia?s Carter-Williams, along with Nerlens Noel, will be the future of that young team but outside of his solid passing and zone defense abilities, has an inconsistent shot.

That then leads to Bennett, who is a tweener forward expected to be the offensive future in Cleveland alongside guards Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters. The 20-year-old only played 27.1 minutes per contest his rookie season at UNLV, so it?s possible he?ll receive similar playing time with the Cavs. The pick-and-roll game with him and those fellow two young scorers should be exhilarating for fans.

Overall, I think Bennett and fellow sixth-favorite Ben McLemore should at least move ahead of Carter-Williams and perhaps Oladipo. Those two underdogs have much more developed offensive games, which should help with at least that over-emphasized part of the transition to the NBA game.
