LinkedIn Is the Only Major Social Network Not Blocked in China, Here's Why

Most major websites and almost all social networks are blocked in China. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Gmail and so on, are all forbidden in the great country. This has allowed the local Internet to flourish, though Chinese companies have as hard a time getting out of the country as foreign companies have getting in.

Still, there's one large US social network that's not blocked in China, one of the largest social networks around in fact and, no, we're not talking about Google+.

LinkedIn works fine in China and is in fact used by quite a few people there. As for why LinkedIn is allowed and Facebook isn't, there are several reasons, mostly stemming from the fact that LinkedIn is a social network for professionals.

LinkedIn offers a way for talented Chinese professionals to connect to the outside world and build business contacts. The fact that the site doesn't support any local language means that all users in the country know both Chinese and English, also a boon for international business relationships.
